Scenario-Based Hydrological Modeling for Designing Climate-Resilient Coastal Water Resource Management Measures: Lessons from Brahmani River, Odisha, Eastern India

چکیده

Widespread urban expansion around the world, combined with rapid demographic and climatic changes, has resulted in serious pollution issues many coastal water bodies. To help formulate management strategies to mitigate impacts of these extreme changes (e.g., local land-use or climate change adaptation policies), research methodologies that incorporate participatory approaches alongside computer simulation modeling tools have potential be particularly effective. One such methodology, called “Participatory Coastal Land-Use Management” (PCLM) approach, consists three major steps: (a) approach find key drivers responsible for quality deterioration, (b) scenario analysis using different impact assessment, (c) scientific evidences developing mitigation measures. In this study, we applied PCLM Kendrapara district India (focusing on Brahmani River basin), a rapidly urbanizing area country’s east coast evaluate current status predict its future conditions. The involved informant interviews determine degradation, which served as an input hydrological next step. Future river (BOD Total coliform (Tot. coli) important parameters) was simulated Water Evaluation Planning (WEAP) tool, considering plausible (to 2050) incorporating diverse pressures (i.e., population growth, change, change). samples (collected 2018) indicated already moderately-to-extremely polluted comparison desirable (Class B), results is likely further deteriorate by 2050 under all considered scenarios. Demographic emerged driver affecting deterioration (68% 69% BOD Tot. coli respectively), whereas had lowest (12% 13% although not negligible. Scientific evidence understand can zone ensuring sustainable resources region. having active stakeholder involvement, co-generation options followed open access free software, models play relevant cost-effective enhance science-policy interface conservation natural resources.

Sustainable water resource management under hydrological uncertainty

[1] A proper understanding of the sources and effects of uncertainty is needed to achieve the goals of reliability and sustainability in water resource management and planning. Many studies have focused on uncertainties relating to climate inputs (e.g., precipitation and temperature), as well as those related to supply and demand relationships. In the end-to-end projection of the hydrological i...

Water Resources in India under Changed Climate Scenario

The present study is an attempt to assess the impacts of climate change on water resources of the river basins of India which have immense importance in domestic, industrial agricultural and hydropower scenario. A distributed hydrological model developed from HEC-HMS was used on the Indian river basins using the projected daily precipitation and temperature data for the continuous daily range f...

Incidence of Aeromonas species isolated from Diarrhoea patients and water samples from coastal districts of Odisha, India

Aeromonas species are ubiquitous water borne organisms and cause gastrointestinal infection in humans (Horneman et al., 2007). Aeromonas species comprises of mesophillic motile and psychrophilic nonmotile gram negative bacterium. Three distinctive gastroenteritis are caused by Aeromonas spp. (a) acute watery diarrhoea, (b) dysentery and (c) sub acute or chronic diarrhoea (Janda et al., 1998). A...

ISPRS Archives XXXVIII-8/W3 Workshop Proceedings: Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture 169 IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON RUNOFF OF THE MAJOR RIVER BASINS OF INDIA USING GLOBAL CIRCULATION MODEL (HADCM3) PROJECTED DATA

The effects of climate change on hydrological regimes have become a priority area for water and catchment management strategies. The terrestrial hydrology driven by monsoon rainfall plays a crucial role in shaping the agriculture, surface and ground water scenario in India. Thus, it is imperative to assess the impact of the changing climatic scenario projected under various climate change scena...
